MPs appeal for calm

Kerema open MP, Richard Mendani and Angoram MP, Salio Waipo have both called on their people not to take matters into their own hands at this time but let the court deal with the petitions.

The two National Alliance Party members, have engaged the service of Tony Waisi, and both were in court today. 

Mendani said he accepts the petition that was filed against him and was confident it will be dismissed.

“There are only three grounds that are raised against me and I’m very confident that they will dismiss the case.

Angoram retains Waipo

The National Alliance candidate defended the Open seat in East Sepik Province with a convincing win after the 26th exclusion yesterday.    

Waipo bagged 16,389 votes, surpassing the absolute majority figure of 13,366.

Independent candidate Patrick Tangit finished second with 10,366 votes for the Angoram Open in the 2017 National Election.

Waipo was declared at 11:30am on Monday as a second term MP. 

Waipo pursues football path

She is one of the 25 players vying for a spot in the final 21 of the Papua New Guinea U-20 women’s team for the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup next month in Port Moresby.

As one of the first Angoram women to make it this far in representative football, Waipo hopes to continue at the senior level in the coming years.

“I am very excited about my football dream and I am working very hard to achieve it,” she said.
