Rigo launches development plan

National Planning Minister Richard Maru, whose department was instrumental in assisting with the formation of the District plan, challenged Rigo to make use of the abundance of land.

The Rigo District Development Plan was launched recently at the Laguna Hotel in Port Moresby.

The event was attended by senior government ministers, including Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.

An elated member for Rigo, Lekwa Gure, thanked the efforts of all partners that were involved in the development of the five year plan.

89 districts, MPs challenged to be accountable

Acting Secretary of the Department of Implementation and Rural Development, Aihi Vaki, wants reports and acquittals for Service Improvement Programs, 5 year development plans and non-discretionary funds to precisely show the link between decisions, development plans and implementation and how funds were used in these areas.

This, he says, is the basis of delivering tangible development.

Vaki said it is required by law that these reports and acquittals be submitted.

Rigo petition dismissed

The election petition disputing Lekwa Gure’s election as Rigo member was dismissed today for being incompetent.

The Waigani National Court dismissed the petition that was filed by former member, Ano Pala, on grounds of bribery and errors and omission during counting.

Gure and the Electoral Commission challenged the competency of the petition, which was upheld.

The sitting MP told the court the petition did not plead facts required by section 208 of the organic law and that the petition lacked facts or particulars to support the bribery allegations.

Baby involved in accident

A vehicle crashed head on with a PMV truck, Sunamist, that was travelling to Rigo, Central Province.

Reports stated that the truck hit the smaller vehicle while it was trying to avoid a pothole.

According to the driver of the Camry, he was rushing his wife to the hospital when he tried to avoid the larger truck.

Unfortunately, he turned too late, resulting in the truck crashing into them.

But for decades it has been neglected; depleting administrative buildings, poor road links and run down amenities.
Rebuilding Kwikila Station is high on the agenda for new member elect, Lekwa Gure.

Rigo women seem to be a happy lot!

Situated kilometres outside Port Moresby, it’s not easy to make a living from selling garden produce.

Many constraints stand in the way, including road, transportation, market availability, tools/machines, and proper skills/knowledge in agriculture.

But for the last years since 2012, these worries have been lifted following the partnership with City Pharmacy Limited group.

Through the Rigo Women in Agriculture Cooperative Society, at least 1,000 women have a stable network to supply to, free transport and proper prices for their produce.

Airport heist ‘insider’ refused bail

Alex Una, 38-years-old, from Gogoi village, Rigo, Central Province, and his lawyer went before the court with a bail application last Friday.

That application was refused today by Justice Panuel Mogish because he was of the view that no good reason was put forward by Una to support his bail application.

The judge also raised concerns about the substantial amount of money that was stolen which is yet to be recovered by police.

“A staggering amount of K1.195 million was stolen from Tropicair staff. There is no evidence that all the monies have been recovered.

Elderly woman assaulted over land dispute

It is a source of disharmony and people should take the matter up with local authorities. Justice Panuel Mogish recently made the remarks after a Rigo man attacked an old woman.

Justice Mogish told Rawali Geno that elderly people must be treated with respect and attacking a defenseless and vulnerable woman was uncalled for, even though she uprooted plants on a disputed land.

“This woman is related to you. I would strongly urge parties to solve the land dispute before someone is killed and seriously injured.
