Police officer arrested for allegedly stealing

The officer, 35-year-old Kosinto Etora from Ke-efa village, Okapa, Eastern Highlands province was arrested on Dec 21, 2016 after an internal police investigation was carried out on his conduct.

He was charged with perjury for lying to the Port Moresby District Court under oath, Stealing K7000 whilst employed in the Public Service and abusing the authority of his office by putting K7, 000 he received as a mediator to his own use.

Fake Exam papers sellers case continues

Southern Highlands men; 22 year-old James Martin, 21 year-olds Collin Lepo and Terrence Danny , 35 year-old Johnny Joshua Kambe, along with Chimbu man, Robinson Walito all appeared at the Committal Court for mention on Thursday.

They were told in court that the police investigators are still working on producing their hand up briefs or investigation files. Their case was adjourned to Feb 2. They first appeared in court on Oct 26, 2016.

Court: Bring numbered bail receipt

Forty-year-old Nicky Bob of Manus province appeared for mention at the Committal Court on Wednesday.

He had earlier applied for bail and was allowed bail at K1,200 by the National Court.  Bail was paid by one of his guarantors however the court noted that the bail receipt was not numbered.

Magistrate Mekeo Gauli told Bob the court was concern why there was no receipt number shown on the bail receipt and directed him to enquire with his guarantor who paid the bail amount.

Kairuku man arrested for murder

From Akere villae, Ray Morgan was arrested by police on Dec 30, 2016, and charged with the wilful murder of Willie Sarufa on Dec 16, 2016.

He appeared in court for mention on Wednesday where his charge was read and explained to him by Magistrate Mekeo Gauli.

Magistrate Gauli, in reading the summary fact in court, said Morgan attacked the man and killed him without any good reason.

It is alleged Morgan was under the influence of alcohol at the time the offence was committed, which was around 2am on Dec 16.

In court for allegedly assaulting 9yo

The man appeared at the Waigani Committal Court on Wednesday where his two charges were read and explained to him.

He was arrested on Dec 23, 2016, and charged for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl at the ATS settlement.

It is alleged he sexually assaulted the girl on two different occasions. The assault started on Dec 5 when the girl’s parents went to the clinic.

His second attempt to violate the minor on Dec 7, 2016, failed when the mother of the victim caught him.

The perpetrator lived with the victim’s family.

Judge: Whistle-blowers act needed

Justice Ipang made these remarks in court on Friday when sentencing Western Governor Ati Wobiro, former Western Provincial Administrator Dr Modowa Gumoi, and Fly Care Foundation Inc. boss Norman Carl May to 10 years in prison.

He said certain individuals in the Western Province were not happy with the MOA which was led to Fly Care Foundation Inc being the caretaker administrator of development projects in the province.

Court orders policemen to return confiscated items

Justice Panuel Mogish today told eight Chinese nationals that they cannot come asking the court to issue directions to the PNG Immigration to renew their visa because their passports were in custody of the court while awaiting a court trial.

“It’s a personal responsibility, why didn’t you come to court earlier and ask for your passports to be released so you can get the visas renewed?” he told the eight who were acquitted.

Additional charge laid against Kokopo goldbuyer

Wesley Kopman who is remanded at Bomana for absconding his bail was recently slapped with another charge on top of the three he was already in court for.

Police charged him on allegations he used a fraudulent trick on July 14 last year to get a vehicle on hire for 280 days without paying for it.

The court was told today by Magistrate Mekeo Gauli that Kopman claimed he was a gold trader to the owner of the vehicle and managed to use it on hire at K1,000 per day.

Shoplifter takes Chinese man to court

 From mainland China, Hense Wu appeared in court before Magistrate Cosmas Bidar who read and explained his charges to him before the court.

Police allege he beat up a national male, Michael Peter Mell on Sept 26 at the Elisio Wholesale at Gordon after Mell stole from his shop.

Wu however said through a statement in court that the man he was alleged to have beaten up had previously stolen from Elisio four times adding it was not him but the public who beat Mell up.
