Mourinho's Stamford Bridge woes

During his two spells in charge of the Blues, Mourinho turned the Bridge into a fortress as the club lifted three Premier League titles.

But when he has gone back to his old stomping ground as a visiting boss, things have not panned out so well.

Indeed, in five trips across the Premier League and FA Cup, Mourinho is yet to taste victory when in charge of a domestic rival.

After this weekend's reverse left Spurs four points adrift of his old club, we look at Mourinho's tale of woe in familiar surroundings in west London.

Liverpool could face Chelsea

Jurgen Klopp's Premier League leaders were stunningly held to a 2-2 draw by the third-tier club on Sunday.

The Reds will be expected to come through the replay at Anfield but face a tricky test in the last 16 should they do so in the form of a trip to Stamford Bridge to face Frank Lampard's Blues.

Holders Manchester City were handed an away tie at Championship promotion chasers Sheffield Wednesday, while Manchester United could renew acquaintances with record goalscorer Wayne Rooney if his Derby County side defeat fourth-tier Northampton Town in a replay.

Chelsea 1-2 Man United

A penalty and a spectacular free-kick from Marcus Rashford sealed a third away win in a row in all competitions for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

Michy Batshuayi had drawn Chelsea level but Rashford struck in sublime fashion just as the home side looked to be building momentum, inflicting a first defeat on Frank Lampard's side since the 2-1 loss to Liverpool on September 22.

Scott McTominay, booked for an early lunge on Mateo Kovacic, whistled a shot just wide from Daniel James' corner 13 minutes in.

Chelsea 4 Arsenal 1

In perhaps his final appearance before a mooted move to Real Madrid, star man Hazard struck two second half goals to confirm Chelsea's second triumph in six seasons in this competition.

Olivier Giroud sparked the landslide against his former employers in the 49th minute before Pedro put a second past retiring Gunners goalkeeper Petr Cech.

Alex Iwobi pulled one back in between Hazard's double but Arsenal faded horribly after half-time and, having finished fifth in the Premier League, are now consigned to another season outside the Champions League.

Chelsea 1-0 Liverpool: Olivier Giroud keeps Blues' top-four hopes alive

The Frenchman's flicked header just after the half-hour mark was enough to see off a Liverpool side who appeared jaded following their midweek Champions League exploits.

The result moves Chelsea to within two points of Tottenham in fourth and just three behind third-placed Liverpool with two games remaining.

Barcelona 3 Chelsea 0

The sides were locked together at 1-1 after Messi's equaliser in the first leg of the last-16 tie at Stamford Bridge and Antonio Conte's men held their own for long periods once again, only to be undermined by uncharacteristic defensive errors.

Messi scored the earliest goal of his professional career in the third minute, with Ousmane Dembele opening his Barcelona account in style to ground an encouraging Chelsea response.

Man City 1 Chelsea 0

In a thoroughly commanding performance from a City team closing in on their first league triumph since 2013-14, Bernardo Silva's strike enabled them to open up an 18-point lead at the summit, though Manchester United can close the gap to 16 by winning at Crystal Palace on Monday.

Antonio Conte dropped Alvaro Morata to the bench as he opted against fielding a recognised striker and false nine Eden Hazard was starved of service as they failed to register a shot on target in the match, the imperious City completely overrunning them.

Chelsea 1 Barcelona 1

Willian hit the post twice but finally found the net with what looked to be the winning goal, only for Messi to score for the first time in six games to earn a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, leaving the clash finely balanced.

Chelsea and Barca were facing each other for the 13th time in the Champions League, renewing their rivalry after a classic semi-final clash in 2012, and for much of the contest there was nothing between the sides despite Barca's inevitable dominance of the ball.

Daniel Sturridge injured after three minutes of Chelsea return with West Brom

The England striker went down under pressure from Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta but was unable to continue and was replaced by Jay Rodriguez.

It is the latest in a long line of injury problems for Sturridge, who was making his second start for West Brom since joining on loan from Liverpool for the rest of the season.

The 28-year-old struggled for opportunities under Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, starting 20 of a possible 94 Premier League games under the German.

Stalemate in League Cup quarterfinal

The hosts struggled to break down Arsene Wenger's side despite enjoying the majority of possession and will feel hard done by after crafting the best of the game's few openings in a lively game at Stamford Bridge on Thursday (NZ time).

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen wasted the best of the hosts' opportunities, failing to find the target with two headers in the second half after Cesc Fabregas had also spurned a headed chance before the break.
