O’Neill questioned over purchase of generators: Police

Assistant Commissioner Crimes, Hodges Ette, confirmed that O’Neill was brought in for questioning this afternoon upon his return from Brisbane, Australia.

ACP Hodges said all COVID-19 protocols were strictly observed when O’Neill was brought in for questioning.

Top cop charged with misappropriation, abuse of office

He was arrested and charged by police investigators yesterday with Director Human Resources, Superintendent Bob Kerry, who was also charged with the same offences.

Both are out on bail.

Police allege that between December 19, 2018, and December 31, 2019, Kerry and Kalaut were signatories to the Police Pension Suspense account held at the Bank South Pacific as per their capacities as Director Human Resources and ACP Human Resources of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary respectively.

Ronaldinho maintains his innocence

Ronaldinho and Roberto Assis, the former footballer's brother and agent, were arrested on March 6 shortly after arriving in Asuncion to promote a book and the launch of an online casino.

Local authorities shared an image of what appeared to be a Paraguayan ID card bearing Ronaldinho's name and photo, with the former Ballon d'Or winner and his sibling taken into custody despite prosecutors proposing a different sanction, arguing the pair had been tricked.

Woman arrested for misappropriating over K100,000

Judy Guina Lamo from Alepa village, Central Province, was arrested and charged for one count of misappropriation, under the Criminal Code Act.

According to Court documents, from the 1st of April to the 31st of October 2013, the defendant used her position as an accounts officer for Department of Provincial and Local Government Affairs to print several cheques.

Suspects nabbed in undercover operation

NCD/Central Commander, Anthony Wagambie Jr, said detectives acting on a tip-off and CCTV footages supplied by victims of crime conducted surveillance on the movement of these two suspects and nabbed them near the Waigani Mobil Service Station.

Wagambie said a shop at the ATS settlement at the back of Jackson’s airport was held up by several gunmen and K16,000 in cash was stolen on Sunday June 16th, 2019.

The same gang allegedly went to Badili, held up employees of a shop and stole K9,817.80 in cash before escaping in a waiting car.

Court grants Gamato bail

The Waigani District Court at 6pm on Friday granted him K3,000 bail after being denied police bail.

Gamato was arrested and charged with a count each of official corruption, money laundering and conspiracy.

Bail was granted with conditions, among those no interference with state witnesses.

Soldier arrested for allegedly stealing alcohol

This was after he reportedly broke into the Junior Sailors Club at the Lombrum Naval base.

The 26-year-old from Fatima, North Waghi, Jiwaka Province, remains in custody at the Lorengau police station.

Provincial Police Commander, chief inspector David Yapu, says the incident occurred on 14th September 2019.

The serving member at HMPNGS Tarangau Naval base at Lombrum was earlier charged by Police for the sexual touching of a minor and was committed to stand trial in the National Court.

He was out on court bail when he committed another serious offence. 

Principal arrested over alleged sexual penetration

Lae police claim the incident occurred on the 13th of March, 2019, at about 2.30pm.

The principal, who is also a director of a private school at Papuan Compound, had abused the trust of the small girl, aged 10 years old. The girl is a relative to the suspect from his wife's side.

“The school is located next to his residence where he told the child to go to the house where he will photocopy some paper for her,” Lae police report.

“It was there that the child was allegedly abused by the principal.

Officer arrested for alleged assault on pregnant wife

The policeman, 36-year-old First Constable Evara Kivovia, allegedly went home drunk and assaulted his wife.

He also allegedly took out a pistol and discharged the weapon.

The matter was reported and the officer was disarmed and taken into custody.

He was arrested and charged at the Gordons Police Barracks on Thursday for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of firearm whilst drunk, discharging firearm and assault.

Kivovia of Ihu, Kikori, Gulf Province, is attached to the Waigani police station.

Policeman dismissed over alleged wife bashing

The policeman, Constable Andy Kaivi, was arrested and charged under Section 20 of the Family Protection Act after his wife, who is also a policewoman, reported that he had been constantly harassing, abusing, threatening and assaulting her.

Kaivi was alleged to have assaulted his wife on December 7 last year at about 7am at the Red Sea Police barracks at Bomana.

Police allege Kaivi, aged 34 from Wosera-Gawi, East Sepik Province, committed this offence whilst he was under the influence of alcohol.
