Assistant coach stresses on consistency

The SP PNG Hunters face competition pace setter the Sunshine Coast Falcons this Sunday at the Sunshine Coast Stadium in Queensland.

Assistant Coach Roderick Puname said the boys need to apply some consistency to the way they play in round 17 of the Intrust Super Cup.

“We stick to consistency with the Falcons. Hold on to the ball, complete sets and getting that kick.”

Coach Puname said last week, the Hunters registered just 30 percent of kicking precision; besides that they did not have enough mental capacity to stay ahead of the match, and succumbed to defeat in the second half.

“On Sunday we dominated physically and we were on top. But in the second half some decisions didn’t go our way. I believe they mentally switched off. It’s consistency and mental toughness that gave us results later on.”

Meantime, Woods Kawage returns from a jaw injury and has been named as hooker in the first 13.

He replaces Patrick Morea, who suffered a broken arm in Round 16, and may be out for the next six weeks.

Puname said this is the only change made from last week’s line up.

“We have a very young side that’s learning. Just have to keep the faith and we will deliver.”
