In a circular sent to all Departments and Governments agencies, Personnel Management Secretary, John Kali, has informed all public servants advising them on the illegality of supporting intending candidates during the election period.
“All public employees are informed once again not to participate in the campaigns of candidates during the 2017 Election period. It is illegal for candidates to either solicit support from public employees or to accept support from public employees for their elections campaigns,” he said.
“Public personnel, funds and facilities must not be utilised in any from to provide transport, fuel, telephones and communications, computers, secretarial services, photo-copying or printing, travel or accommodation costs, refreshment and catering, broadcasting, use of furniture and equipment and/or election support of any kind for the aspiring candidate.”
Kali is urging all public employees to report anyone in the public service engaging in such illegal activity to report to them to the Department.
He said he will ensure they are reported immediately to the agency head, Electoral Commission and Ombudsman Commission for investigation.
