Athletes encouraged to be good ambassadors

President of the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee, Sir John Dawanincura, has encouraged Team PNG athletes to be good ambassadors when they represent their country at the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu.

Dawanincura reminded the athletes that they are not only representing their country but also their sport and families.

He urged them to support each other and work as a team to achieve their goals in the game.

“As Team PNG, support your fellow athletes and together aim for the best results that you can muster.

“The vision of the PNG Olympic Committee is to inspire and unite Papua New Guineans through sporting excellence and success.

“You have this opportunity to inspire and unite our country by doing your best. Take this Games with every ounce of your strength and make it more than just an experience.

“I’m confident of seeing you standing high with a smile and your head held high. You will always be our champion regardless of the end result,” said Dawanincura.

At the last Pacific Mini Games in Wallis & Futuna in 2013, Papua New Guinea topped the medal tally.

They return with another 150 of their best to defend this glory.
